Base pay: $20.00/hr - $30.00/hr

The Pre-analytical Lab Coordinator is a key leader on the front lines of the laboratory. These caregivers have developed significant knowledge and understanding in laboratory processes and workflow. They are team players who are self‑motivated, use critical thinking, and assist team members and other leaders in finding solutions to problems. The Pre‑analytical Coordinator oversees efficient specimen collection and processing throughout the laboratory system, providing opportunities for leadership experience and technical skills that are integral to potential career progression into supervisory roles.

Essential Functions

  • Oversight of team training and assessments, check‑ins, coaching, audits, department scheduling, advanced troubleshooting, problem resolution, or other pre‑analytical responsibilities as needed.
  • Caregivers in this role are proficient at lab and/or phlebotomy skills and lead pre‑analytical teams that perform phlebotomy, specimen processing, waived or moderate complexity testing, and clinical research studies.
  • Leaders act as a liaison between ancillary services, nurses, clinicians, and laboratory clients, and may serve as a representative on various teams, system work groups, and continuous improvement projects. They monitor caregiver adherence to expectations, policies, and procedures and may participate in corrective actions, including interviewing and hiring.
  • The coordinator handles stressful situations professionally, deescalates them calmly and respectfully, and may fill in bench shifts, on‑call duties, or a temporary supervisor role during the absence of the department supervisor/manager.

Qualifications

  • Two years of laboratory experience. Required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Preferred.
  • Two years of phlebotomy experience, phlebotomy training or national certification as approved by manager/supervisor. Preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors, especially during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision, including frequent computer use and typing.
  • Expected to lift, carry, and transport items, including heavy items, often moving patients and equipment.
  • May stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • For roles requiring driving: expected to drive a vehicle, seeing and reading traffic signs and signals.

Hourly Range

$20.67 - $30.78 per hour
