The Department of Mathematics & Statistics, housed in the College of Arts & Sciences at Northern Kentucky University, invites applications from individuals for a tenure-track position in applied mathematics at the assistant professor level to begin August 2026. Teach 12 contact hours per semester during the academic year Establish and maintain a successful research program Fulfill service requirements to the degree program, department, university, and/or community Other duties as assigned Candidates should be strongly committed to teaching at the undergraduate level and should incorporate high-impact practices into their instructional methods. Primary teaching responsibilities will include in-person courses supporting our mathematics major, and candidates are encouraged to propose new courses that highlight their area of expertise. Additional teaching assignments will depend on departmental needs and will typically include lower-level algebra-based service courses. The successful candidate is also expected to foster a productive research program with the potential to incorporate undergraduate students. Faculty members are also expected to engage in service activities at all levels of the university. The

Department of Mathematics & Statistics

is comprised of 19 faculty members. Faculty in the department are committed to high-quality teaching and support of student success. They have participated in a professional learning communities focused on teaching practices that have led to numerous changes in the classroom.

OER

resources and free, customizable, online homework platforms are being used in several courses. Most recently, faculty have incorporated collaborative learning and project-based learning in a variety of courses. Recent faculty publications have appeared in

Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education ,

Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology ,

Journal of Statistics and Data Science Education , and

Mathematics Teacher . Faculty have presented their work at regional and national conferences with travel support from the department. Support for undergraduate research exists both departmentally, as well as through the Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics ( CINSAM ) and the College of Arts & Sciences. NKU

Required qualifications: Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics or Ph.D. in Mathematics with a focus in an area of applied mathematics Demonstrated skills or commitment to undergraduate mathematics instruction at all levels Experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that supports students with varying mathematical backgrounds A scholarly agenda that allows for the incorporation of undergraduate students Strengths also considered: A contemporary field of study that equips graduates with valuable, in-demand career skills An area of emphasis that could lead to relationships with local businesses, industries, or government agencies Experience with outreach events in the discipline that could lead to recruitment of mathematics majors Experience in undergraduate classrooms as an instructor of record Implementation of high-impact practices in undergraduate courses Previous experience directing undergraduate research experiences Minimum Education:
