Overview
IU Health Physicians is seeking an Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon to join our dynamic team at a bustling level 1 academic trauma center. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in orthopedic trauma care and a passion for teaching and research within an academic setting. The position offers the opportunity to work on complex cases in a high-energy environment while contributing to the education of orthopedic residents and fellows.
Position Details
Level 1 trauma center — call coverage shared among group
Monday–Friday, 1 day clinic weekly, 1 block day, weekend call variable
Location: IU Health Methodist Hospital
Approximately 20% outpatient / 80% inpatient
Responsibilities include: adult patient population serving level 1 trauma center downtown Indianapolis
Proficiency in managing and surgically treating pelvis and acetabular fractures, with expertise in repairing articular fractures and long bone injuries
Qualifications
DO or MD
Fellowship trained in Orthopaedic Trauma
ABOS BE/BC in the United States
Ability to acquire Indiana medical license
Graduating fellows and experienced board-certified physicians are encouraged to apply

Healthcare System / Hospital Description IU Health Methodist Hospital is a regional healthcare leader with 1,000 beds and over 130 ICU beds. It is the largest trauma center in Indianapolis and a highly subspecialized center for cardiovascular surgery, thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, lung transplantation, and neurocritical care. The hospital is part of the IU Health Adult Academic Health Center, and is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the top hospital in the state of Indiana. Construction for a new downtown hospital and campus is underway, opening in late 2027, featuring three 16-story towers with 864 beds. IU School of Medicine is also constructing a medical education and research building east of the new hospital.
