Child Nutrition Worker I

Students cannot learn if they are hungry, so it is important to make sure all students are fed nutritious and delicious breakfasts and lunches. The Child Nutrition Worker I performs a variety of duties in the cafeteria to make sure students are well‑fed and to keep the kitchen running effectively and efficiently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and serve meals for students, including food preparation, operating serving lines, point‑of‑sale operations, and compliance with all local, state and federal laws and guidelines for meal service.
Provide high‑quality customer service, supervise student safety, and maintain welcoming, positive interactions with all students and staff.
Maintain an orderly, safe and clean kitchen and cafeteria environment.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and/or Experience Valid Maricopa County Food Handlers Permit.
Preferred Education and/or Experience High school diploma or GED preferred; working knowledge of procedures, portion control, methods, and processes of food preparation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Department organization, methods, standards, and practices.
Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing food preparation, storage, and dissemination.
Ability to prepare (cook, bake) food for large numbers of people.
Effective interfacing with other departments, school personnel, maintenance staff, and business contacts from outside the district.
Operate computer and point‑of‑sale system.
Work cooperatively with staff.
Follow general bookkeeping procedures established by the Child Nutrition program.
Meet federal and state nutrition guidelines.
