Minimum Qualifications
Five years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement in the Enforcement Division of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
One year of this experience must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Corporal or higher rank in state service.
Active Police Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification and current annual training requirements.
Valid Louisiana driver’s license at the time of appointment.
Qualified to be an ex officio notary public.
Special Requirements
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relieved of the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws.
The incumbent must be able to lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately, and operate vehicles, boats, and all‑terrain vehicles while performing duties.
Job Duties
Conduct visual inspections of assigned personnel in the performance of their duties and ensure compliance with enforcement procedures.
Review and ensure accuracy of all field‑generated reports on law enforcement activities; notarize summons issued by Field Agents.
Supervise the secure processing of evidence and serve as on‑scene coordinator for technical problems related to enforcement, including evidence seizure and handling.
Serve as the first‑line supervisor for sworn enforcement personnel assigned to a district.
Supervise and assist sworn personnel engaged in the investigation and enforcement of all laws, rules, and regulations delegated to the department.
Act temporarily as Regional Commander in the absence of the Wildlife Enforcement Captain.
Provide all personnel‑management activities, including scheduling, promotions, performance reviews, and leave approvals.
Counsel subordinates regarding work‑related problems or performance issues; analyze statistical data to design work schedules.
