Overview
DTSC's Site Mitigation and Restoration Program is looking for a strong team leader to oversee a unit of project managers responsible for the investigation and remediation of contaminated properties in the Greater Los Angeles area. Join a motivated team in guiding proponents and responsible parties through DTSC's investigation and remediation processes to help cleanup and safely reuse properties such as dry cleaners, plating shops, and industrial facilities. Responsibilities
Provide technical direction and training to staff who oversee environmental investigations and cleanup activities at properties where hazardous materials, substances or waste were released into the environment Provide guidance on staff’s review of submitted site mitigation-related documents (i.e., Phase I, Preliminary Endangerment Assessment/Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Facility Assessment, Site Characterization workplans and reports, Sampling and Analysis Plans, Human Health, and Ecological Risk Assessments, etc.), field work oversight, regulatory decision-making, and communication with responsible parties, project proponents, external agencies, and the public Utilize knowledge of DTSC’s policies, processes, and guidance combined with data analysis to oversee investigations and cleanup of sites with hazardous materials Oversee and assist staff in evaluating appropriate sampling and mitigation techniques, based on acceptable scientific theories and procedures Provide analysis and guidance for remediation technologies and the selection of the best remedial alternative, participates in project meetings related to project specific issues, negotiations with responsible parties and/or project proponents, and settlement meetings Recruit, hire, train, develop, and provide leadership to unit staff Desirable Qualifications We Look For
Project Management experience of at least five years in environmental investigation and/or cleanup At least five years of environmental investigation, evaluation, and/or characterization of contaminated properties experience At least five years of experience in environmental mitigation and/or cleanup of contaminated properties Experience of at least five years with written science communication, including preparation of investigation, cleanup and/or Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment reports and work plans Verbal science communication, including public speaking experience of at least five years At least five years of experience with data mining, data analysis, and data presentation (MS Excel, MS PowerPoint power-user) Application Information
