Job Description As a Tax Principal, you will be the trusted leader of Baker Tilly’s tax services, delivering industry‑focused tax advisory and compliance services to middle‑market clients. You will work side‑by‑side with firm leadership and associates to serve clients and build the business, having a direct impact on the firm’s success.
Responsibilities
Provide federal tax compliance and consulting services to commercial clients, leading day‑to‑day client relationships across middle‑market to multinational accounts.
Consult on technical matters and special projects in corporate and flow‑through taxation, accounting methods, and ASC 740.
Research tax matters, respond to IRS and other tax authority inquiries, and recommend client solutions.
Coordinate with specialty tax practices on complex matters in state and local, high net worth, international, research and development, and incentive areas.
Oversee tax‑planning responsibilities for federal and individual clients, review complex tax research on business transactions for diverse entities.
Provide recommendations for business and process improvements based on client operations and objectives.
Manage client engagement staffing, billing/collections, and ensure profitability targets are met.
Network to build strong relationships internally and externally, pursuing new clients and projects for the firm.
Collaborate with other service line leadership to develop tax service market positioning, branding, strategy, and messaging.
Invest in professional development through individual learning and firm‑wide programs.
Support team growth by coaching associates, facilitating recruitment of future members, and ensuring high ethical standards.
Represent the firm at key community events, functions, and meetings.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s or advanced degree desirable.
CPA or JD required.
15+ years’ experience providing federal tax compliance and consulting services in a professional services firm; industry experience is a plus.
5+ years of supervisory experience, mentoring and counseling associates.
Demonstrated management, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, project management, and communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other tax software.
Exceptional client service, commitment to continuous learning, ethical knowledge, and a sense of urgency.
