In this position the Wheel, Tire & Jack (WTJ) Design & Release (D&R) Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, validating and releasing parts under their responsibility for the assigned programs. The WTJ D&R is also responsible to look for design improvements to increase quality and cost/weight optimization. The WTJ D&R engineer is responsible to design parts in order to comply with Corporate and Local Requirements for parts validation, considering the WCR (Worldwide Customers Requirements), ES/FS (Engineering Specifications) and SDS (Systems Design specifications) as well as the Manufacturing and Assembly requirements. The engineer is also responsible for parts incorporation at the Assembly Plant.

Responsibilities

Understand and apply GPDS process.

Follow Robustness Engineering Disciplines (Failure Mode Avoidance).

Knowledge and application of Six Sigma and 8D.

Develop ESOW (Engineering Statement of Work) and participate in the Sourcing Process (SA, ED&T review, piece and tooling cost review and CPA).

Follow the TDR process (Technical Design Review).

Release parts in FEDEBOM and WERS through the product life cycle.

Support the Change Control Process.

Audit and update BOM (Bill of Material) with correct part levels and usage, for prototype builds and maintain it post Job 1.

Be aware of Worldwide Engineering changes and proceed accordingly.

Identify validation, durability and functional test required as per SDS, WCR & ES (DVP / FEDE).

AIMS and VVT resolution (Launch issues resolution).

Define and verify engineering prototypes requirements at part level.

Parts implementation/Sign-off in assembly plant & assistance with quality issues in all milestones.

PDL's revisions and proceed accordingly if affected.

Support VQR's, VRT's and PVT, as required.

Jointly with purchasing, identify potential suppliers to develop identified parts to be localized.

Jointly with STA give technical assistance to supplier through the Supplier Engagement Process.

Comply with objectives set during first quarter of the year.

Interact with Vehicle Dynamics, Program teams, CAD, Suppliers, and Vehicle Engineering.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related degree.

2+ years of Chassis engineering design and release experience in an automotive domain.

Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related degree (optional).

Knowledge of materials properties.

Knowledge of production processes.

GPDS understanding.

Robustness Engineering Disciplines.

Proficient analysis capabilities.

Vision and knowledge of automotive industry environment.

Basic 3D CAD knowledge.

Change control process knowledge.

This position is hybrid. Candidates who are in commuting distance to a Ford hub location may be required to be onsite four or more days per week.
