Vice President, Finance

Position Overview Partnering with the CFO, the Vice President, Finance will oversee all aspects of finance including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, audit, risk, tax, and investments. The role includes stewardship of a complex, multi-million-dollar operating budget with diversified funding streams and leadership of a finance team with 3–4 direct reports. This position is hybrid, based in Washington, DC.
What You’ll Do
Provide high-level analysis, reporting, and strategic guidance to senior leadership and the Board.
Ensure financial systems and controls are efficient, effective, and forward-looking.
Lead and modernize budgeting, reporting, and financial processes to reflect best practices.
Build, mentor, and strengthen a high-performing finance team.
Drive innovation by leveraging new financial technologies and tools.
Play a key role in strategic and operational planning, ensuring financial decisions align with organizational goals.
Present financial insights to donors and funders, demonstrating transparency and building trust in the organization’s stewardship of resources.
What You’ll Need to Succeed (Requirements)
10+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership across nonprofit and commercial sectors.
CPA or advanced degree strongly preferred; Big Four background a plus.
Proven success in modernizing finance functions and implementing scalable processes.
Hands‑on experience with NetSuite (finance), Salesforce (CRM), and Ramp (credit card system).
Skilled at advising executives and engaging with Boards, donors, and funders.
Strong change management ability; track record leading organizations through transformation.
Strategic thinker with the ability to pivot seamlessly between strategy and execution.
Collaborative leader who develops and motivates teams; 3–4 direct reports.
