Position Objective The Breast Surgeon will provide medical services for the designated clinical area [The Breast Center], providing surgical, consultative, and follow‑up care for patients with benign and malignant breast disease.

Essential Job Duties

Provides clinical and surgical skills to provide services to patients with breast cancer and benign breast disease.

Develops and reinforces positive working relationships with the surgical staff of AAMC and employees of the Breast Center.

Participates in and expands breast cancer research projects related to breast imaging, surgery, genome tissue banking, quality‑of‑life studies, and breast cancer prevention (e.g., PET mammography, breast MRI study, ECOG, DOD, KOMEN, the SEER trial, sentinel node study, etc.).

Participates with and assists with the development and expansion of the Risk Assessment Program (RAPP).

Participates in community outreach in collaboration with the Women’s and Children’s Program, the Oncology Program, Wellness and Community Outreach, and the Surgical Initiative.

Develops positive working relationships with departments that provide services to the Breast Center, including Pathology, Anne Arundel Diagnostics, Laboratory, Marketing and Public Relations, Central Sterile Supply, Clinical Research Staff, Tumor Registry, Medical Office, and the Surgical Initiative.

Participates in efforts to maintain excellent (A grade) patient satisfaction related to services at The Breast Center.

Collaborates with Radiology and Radiation Oncology to integrate digital mammography and APBI/Breast MammoSite, and other new imaging techniques related to breast diagnostics and treatments at The Breast Center.

Collaborates with the Plastic Surgery Service on the breast reconstruction program.

Participates in quality‑control programs related to Breast Center activities, coordinating with the Anne Arundel Medical Centers Cancer Committee and the DeCesaris Cancer Institute’s Radiation Oncology Department.

Educational/Experience Requirements

Active Medical Staff at AAMC in good standing.

Trained in a breast fellowship program.

Demonstrates significant skill and success in managing breast disease.

Shows significant interest in clinical research in breast cancer prevention, diagnostics, surgery, and treatment.

Required License/Certifications

Licensed physician in Maryland, certified by a medical specialty board.
