Position Description St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Library Courier for the St. Johns County Public Library System.
St. Johns County residents enjoy a healthy quality of life with many perks including one of the top rated public school system in the State of Florida, miles of beach shoreline, peaceful estuary scenery of the St. Johns River, long established agriculture and equestrian scene, and the nation's oldest city, historic St. Augustine. SJCPLS encourages a love of literature, the arts, and lifelong learning by providing a variety of information, resources, and entertainment to the community. SJCPLS serves all areas of St. Johns County, including St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fruit Cove, and Hastings. The Library System has six branches, three bookmobiles, and offers books-by-mail service. In addition to books, periodicals, and online databases, SJCPLS offers computer access, notary services, Inter-Library Loan, access to a Seed Library, test proctoring, and many volunteer opportunities. The Library System also offers a dynamic range of programming for adults, teens, and children.
Employees work in a team-oriented environment and are responsible for assisting with library circulation, reference, youth and adult service areas.
Examples of Duties The ideal Library Courier candidate must possess St. Johns County's core values of Dedication, Openness, Adaptability, Visionary, Fiscal Responsibility, Integrity, and Humility and must work well in a collaborative team environment. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to: Transport crates of books, mail and miscellaneous items to each of the library locations throughout the County. Maintains assigned vehicle. Maintains delivery carts. Maintains full-time presence on the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Perform very basic maintenance on ban and other Library vehicles. For example: pumps gas, cleans windshield, checks oil' checks air pressure on tires, takes vehicles to car wash as needed; reports any maintenance/repairs to Library Administration; may arrange to have any maintenance/repair work done, as assigned; may deliver vehicles to shop for repairs, as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Candidates for the Library Courier position are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification. No experience required. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position. Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills to serve others. Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language. Must be able to operate a computer
