Electrical Engineer – Protection & Relay
US Tech Solutions is offering a qualified Electrical Engineer to support protection & relay work. The role is part of a 36+ month term and requires a Bachelor’s in Engineering and a Professional Engineer (PE) license. A master’s degree is preferred but not required.
Base pay range:
$40.00/hr – $80.00/hr
Employment type:
Contract (Full time, hybrid, 3 days/week in office. Some travel may be required; the worker will be required to drive a personal vehicle with mileage reimbursed.)
Summary of desired experience:
Knowledge of wiring diagrams and schematics, especially for DER site equipment (relays, inverters, UPS systems, etc.).
Job Responsibilities
Familiarity with testing and commissioning of protective circuits using Omicron and Doble test sets.
Analyses and reporting of fault responses and breaker operations.
Experience with hands‑on troubleshooting and evaluation of equipment failures to determine root‑cause and necessary resolution actions.
Familiarity with microprocessor‑based relaying.
Familiarity with relay protection schemes and relay logic.
Experience with relay settings calculations for protective relays associated with Inverter Based Resources.
Interpret and develop relay logic with microprocessor‑based relays.
Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise.
Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher‑level employees.
Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems.
Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity.
Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures.
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied.
≥ 10‑15 years discipline experience and a unique SME skill.
Experience in the utility industry.
Familiarity with Aspen Relay Database, Aspen OneLiner, CymTCC, SEL‑5010, SEL‑5030 AcSELerator software.
Understanding and experience with NERC Compliance Standards including but not limited to: PRC‑006, PRC‑023, PRC‑025, PRC‑026, PRC‑027, CIP‑010, CIP‑002, FAC‑008.
Familiarity with electromechanical, solid‑state, and microprocessor‑based relaying.
Familiarity with relay protection schemes and relay logic for a variety of applications (Transmission Line, Bus, Transformer, Breaker Failure, Capacitors, Etc.).
≥ 15 years discipline experience and a unique SME skill.
Qualifications
