As a
Principal Software Engineering Manager - M365 Copilot App , you will lead a team to develop and improve the Copilot application across Windows, Mac, and Web platforms. You will work through Engineering Managers to lead architectural decisions and help your team make sound technical choices to build applications, balancing innovation with platform stability. You will work closely with your Engineering Managers and Product counterparts to take ideas through design, implementation, validation, and release. You will plan investments for your organization, assign work to teams, and help them manage execution of projects. You will help foster a fast‑paced, collaborative environment to design, prototype, implement, and ship features. You will partner across multiple product and platform teams in Microsoft and define reusable architectural patterns and techniques that enable consistent and intelligent user experiences at scale. You will mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical capabilities in architecture, performance profiling, and cross‑platform design systems. You will attract and hire top engineering talent. You will provide engineering leadership to the team taking on technical issues inherent in building and delivering a consumer‑grade application that powers cross‑platform AI experiences.
Responsibilities
Guide partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams.
Guide teams and lead identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
Optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to improve performance and maintainability.
Guide the team to drive multiple group’s project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders.
Guide the team and monitor other engineers across product lines, working on‑call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
Oversee product development and ensure products are scaled according to customer requirements, implementing appropriate techniques to address scaling and performance objectives.
Qualifications Required Qualifications:
4+ years experience developing, shipping, and maintaining one or more large‑scale Windows, Mac, or Web applications.
3+ years experience managing a skilled team, growing and nurturing talent, and hiring top engineers.
3+ years experience planning, leading, and executing projects, as well as delivering impactful results.
3+ years experience resolving customer feedback and improving product quality.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements. This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
Software Engineering M5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 – $274,800 per year, with a higher range of USD $188,000 – $304,200 in the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area.
