Job Summary
Under the direction and general supervision of the Landscape Supervisor, the incumbent performs a variety of skilled manual tasks including native conservation duties, trail repair, volunteer support, tree planting, and general forestry vegetation maintenance, such as trimming, brushing, and small tree removal to support the Vegetation Management Plan. Additional duties include gardening, earth removal, refuse disposal, stocking, and storing materials as instructed. The incumbent is expected to work in various weather conditions and terrain, including areas containing Poison Oak, stairs, forest trails, hills, slopes, and rocky foot paths. Salary components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy and the placement within the salary range depends on experience and internal equity.

The UCSF Facilities Services Department (FS) is committed to creating an exceptional campus physical environment to support the research, teaching, health care and community service mission of the University. FS employs over 400 professional staff and manages over $90 million in operating funds to maintain the UCSF campus environment.
Required Qualifications
High school graduation and one (1) year of experience as a laborer/gardener (landscape, horticulture or forestry) or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Demonstrated experience safely operating power tools (e.g., chainsaw) and small to large/heavy equipment
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing in English with customers and department staff at all levels
Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations
Working knowledge of landscape, horticulture, or forestry
Ability to perform work on schedule in a safe and timely manner
Demonstrated experience safely operating and maintaining power tools
Ability to work without direct supervision and handle multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to deliver high quality customer service and respond to customer needs
Demonstrated familiarity with field-related equipment
Ability to communicate with technical staff and skilled trades
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of ornamental and California native plants
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint)
Experience climbing without spurs
Knowledge of knots and rigging techniques
Demonstrated experience with small equipment maintenance
Demonstrated experience in trail maintenance
Experience working with volunteer programs
University experience or comparable experience supporting a large, complex service-oriented institution
