The Pines Country Club, a premier private club in the heart of Morgantown, WV, is seeking an experienced and motivated Golf Course Superintendent to lead its golf course maintenance operations. This individual will oversee all aspects of agronomy, turf management, and team development for the club’s 18-hole championship golf course and surrounding property. The Superintendent will play a critical leadership role in elevating course conditioning, executing infrastructure improvements, and fostering a strong workplace culture aligned with the club’s values and mission.

With a forward‑looking Board and Green Committee, The Pines is committed to investing in its course infrastructure, equipment, and people to ensure long‑term excellence.

Club Highlights

Total Annual Rounds: 24,000

Membership: 460 Golfing, 100 Social, 60 Club

2025 Maintenance Budget: $1.3 Million

Upcoming Projects: Sand channel drainage on greens, tree removal

Irrigation System: Toro 2-line system; water source from Cheat Lake; pump station under review

Turf Types: Bent/Poa greens; bent/Poa fairways and tees

Equipment: Mixed fleet (purchase/lease program under review)

Staffing Structure: Full-time, seasonal, and part‑time employees (expected mix 10–12 FTEs)

Green Committee: Active, meeting monthly Reports: Board Liaison

Initial Priorities of the Position

Assess and develop overall conditioning and playability standards in alignment with member expectations.

Assess and optimize irrigation efficiency, drainage needs, and turf health across all playing surfaces.

Lead capital planning and budgeting for 2025–2026, including equipment program review.

Strengthen team culture, training, and retention strategies for full‑time and seasonal staff.

Develop clear communication and reporting protocols for the Green Committee and Board.

Advance long‑term agronomic and infrastructure planning for sustainable improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related field.

6–8 years of progressive leadership experience, ideally as a Superintendent or 1st Assistant at a comparable facility.

Experience with irrigation systems management, water quality, and environmental stewardship.

Strong understanding of cool‑season turf management in Mid-Atlantic climates.

Key Knowledge, Skills, Aptitude and Other Traits

Oversee all operations and employees within the Grounds Department (superintendents, assistants, greenskeepers, horticulturalist, equipment technicians, etc.)

Plan, schedule, and supervise maintenance, purchasing, and construction of all club grounds and facilities

Oversees 18-holes of golf, all waterways, practice facilities and surrounding grounds

Ensures The Pines Country Club is updated on modern agronomy, golf course maintenance methods, safety and organizational policies and procedures

Maintain standards of playability on the golf course as set by the Green Committee Chair

Communicate and collaborates with multiple club committees, maintains a global perspective on the golf course with other club amenities and services.

Recruit, train, evaluate, and motivate all staff; enforce safety and club policies

Supervise chemical applications, contracted services, and snow removal

Develop and monitor budgets, purchasing, and capital planning

Remain current with industry best practices and applicable laws/regulations

Ensure confidentiality, professionalism, and positive representation of the club

Clear understanding of high expectation facilities, and classic golf course architecture

Fosters member education and engagement

Seek and obtain professional advice from industry experts including golf course architects, fellow superintendents or agronomist, soil consultants, arborist and or any other specialist in a pertinent field.

Represent The Pines Country Club with professionalism in the community and golf industry.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $105,000-$130,000

Bonus Opportunity: Based on performance and course conditioning benchmarks
