The Role You’ll Contribute The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Manager is an advocate for the nursing professional development team and manages the activities and personnel in the NPD department to provide the development of clinical excellence in assigned areas through active participation in education, role development, collaborative partnerships, research/evidence‑based practice/quality/performance improvement, onboarding/orientation, and competency management. The NPD Manager functions as a learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, advocate for NPD specialty and partner for practice transitions as they guide the department towards desired outcomes. The NPD Manager is responsible for, as a result, quality and safety are enhanced, and patient outcomes are improved.
The Value You’ll Bring to the Team The principal duties and job responsibilities are based on the Standards of the Association of Nursing Professional Development including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes, planning, implementation, coordination, health promotion and evaluation. Additional standards integrated into the manager’s assessment and interventions include ethics, advocacy, respectful and equitable practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, scholarly inquiry, quality and practice, professional practice evaluation, resource stewardship, and environmental health.
Leadership and Human Resources
Monitors performance of the staff and takes corrective action for improvement as appropriate. Uses independent judgment to:
• Selects applicant for interview and hire and assures appropriate orientation.
• Suspend or invoke other discipline for work infractions, performance deficiencies and conduct violations by exercising supervisory authority.
• Evaluates supervised employees, recommends promotion of supervised employees, and recommends bonuses and awarding of other discretionary rewards to supervised employees.
• In collaboration with the Human Resources Department, terminates supervised employees, where appropriate.
• Actively involves all groups in shared decision‑making where appropriate.
• Uses skill in effective conflict management and is able to reach a common goal and resolve conflicts.
• Creates a work environment that addresses the physical and emotional needs of the staff and one that is conducive to retention of the staff.
Financial Management
Understands health care economics, public policy, and finance as it pertains to the delivery of patient care.
Develops, analyzes, and interprets department‑based budgeting. Maintains staffing and scheduling, and resource utilization within budgeted targets for the department.
Utilizes information systems to support business decisions.
Performance Improvement
Demonstrates familiarity with the performance improvement model of the organization.
Champions performance improvement activities within the NPD department through problem identification, assessment, data gathering, change implementation, and evaluation of outcomes.
Supports continual process improvement by sponsoring and/or participating in performance activities and initiatives.
Sets quality standards and initiatives for the NPD department through collaboration with leadership and implementation of evidence‑based practice where appropriate.
Coordinates with nursing leadership to provide support and education as requested to facilitate learning and/or process changes for identified clinical units’ performance improvement projects.

Utilizes critical thinking skills in the performance of their duties.
Demonstrates and understanding of technology utilized in the organization.

Qualifications Knowledge and Skills Required
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Power Point, Teams, and Excel.
Effective oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills.
Knowledge of the Association of Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) skills and standards for Nursing Professional Development.
Leadership ability and working knowledge of leadership principles and management skills.
Knowledge of regulatory standards (CMS, DNV, TJC, OSHA) for professional specialty served.
Education and Experience Required
Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Minimum two (2) years in Nursing Professional Development role or previous clinical leadership experience.
Education and Experience Preferred
Experience in acute care hospital setting.
Master’s degree in nursing or related field.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required
Current, valid Florida State of Nursing license as a registered professional nurse.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certification.
Licensure or Registration Preferred
Clinical or Leadership certification.
Advanced Life Support Provider Certification, per specialty.
ANCC Certification in Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC).
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provides direct leadership to Nursing Professional Development Specialist and Practitioners.
