We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated

Specialty Doctor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

to join our friendly and forward-thinking team at

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) .

This is a full-time, permanent post (10 PAs) based within our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) department, offering an excellent opportunity to develop your skills across a broad range of elective and routine OMFS work. The successful candidate will work closely with consultants and registrars, supporting clinical activity in outpatient clinics, minor oral surgery lists, and inpatient care, as well as participating in a 1:5 second on‑call rota.

Main Duties

Provide a high standard of clinical care to patients under the supervision of OMFS consultants.

Undertake elective and routine oral and maxillofacial surgery, including outpatient clinics and minor oral surgery lists.

Participate in the 1:5 second on‑call rota, supporting emergency dental and maxillofacial admissions.

Contribute to the assessment and management of patients in inpatient, day‑case and outpatient settings.

Work collaboratively with consultants, specialist registrars and dental core trainees, providing day-to-day supervision and guidance to junior staff.

Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical documentation and uphold Trust policies on clinical governance and patient safety.

Participate in audit, clinical governance and service improvement activities within the department.

Take part in teaching and training activities as agreed, with opportunities for involvement in education, service development and research depending on individual interests.

Person Specification Registration

Valid registration with the General Dental Council

Qualifications / Training

Evidence of ongoing medical education – FDS / MFDS

Skills and Knowledge

Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff.

Ability to organise workload efficiently.

Knowledge of audit process and clinical governance.

Proven track record in undertaking research projects.

Experience in teaching; ALS, APLS, PALS, ATLS certification.

Experience

Minimum of three years’ relevant post‑registration experience at SHO level or above (or equivalent).

Minimum one year experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (SHO level or equivalent).

Ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.

Ability to travel to fulfil the requirements of the post.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and will require a DBS check. The cost of the DBS check is as follows:

Standard Check: £21.50 + Administration cost of £5.90 = £27.40 (deducted from salary over following four months).

Enhanced Check: £49.50 + Administration cost of £5.90 = £55.40 (deducted from salary over following four months).
