Position Overview
Spencer Thomas Group (STG) is currently looking to add to our team of consultants under our
USA Payroll Practice . We are seeking a highly experienced
Payroll Manager / Payroll Optimization Subject Matter Expert (SME)
with deep expertise in
ADP Workforce Now . This role combines operational payroll leadership with strategic optimization initiatives to enhance payroll efficiency, compliance, and system performance.
This is a
remote, full-time consulting role , aligned with
Central Standard Time (CST) business hours .
Responsibilities Manage end-to-end U.S. payroll operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. Serve as the subject matter expert for
ADP Workforce Now , providing advanced configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization support. Lead payroll optimization initiatives, including process redesign, workflow improvements, and system functionality enhancements. Partner with HR, Finance, and external stakeholders to ensure payroll integration, compliance, and streamlined reporting. Act as primary liaison with ADP representatives to address escalated issues and drive system improvements. Document payroll processes and establish best practices for controls, compliance, and reporting. Provide insights through payroll data analysis to support leadership decision-making. Mentor and support payroll staff to strengthen operational knowledge and capabilities. Support change management related to payroll process or system enhancements. Required Qualification(s)
5-10 years of progressive experience in
Payroll Management . Strong, hands-on expertise with
ADP Workforce Now
(configuration, optimization, and administration). Proven track record of leading payroll process improvement or optimization projects. In-depth knowledge of U.S. payroll compliance, regulations, and reporting. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills. Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, with experience managing multiple stakeholders. Ability to work independently in a remote consulting environment. Preferred Qualification(s)
Prior consulting or professional services experience. CPP (Certified Payroll Professional)
designation. Project management experience
(e.g., leading payroll-related initiatives, PMP certification a plus). ADP Workforce Now certification or equivalent payroll credentials. Experience in payroll transformation, optimization, or re-implementation projects. Bachelor's degree in HR, Accounting, Finance, or related field. Duration
This is a
project-based consulting opportunity
with a start date of
October 20, 2025 , and an initial duration through
March 31, 2026 , with the possibility of extension.
