Position Summary The Behavior Specialist plays a key role in training and coaching paraprofessionals to support students with behavioral needs in inclusive settings. Reporting to the Director of Inclusion, this role provides in-situ training, models behavioral strategies, and ensures consistent implementation of evidence-based practices across general education environments. The specialist uses data to inform practices and reinforce positive student behavior, fostering inclusive learning environments districtwide.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provide in-situ coaching and modeling of behavior support strategies tailored to student and classroom needs Use the Behavior Skills Training model to deliver professional development to paraprofessionals Maintain detailed documentation of training sessions and staff interactions Conduct post-training check-ins at scheduled intervals Lead staff training on inclusive education practices and environmental supports Support school-wide implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Utilize data to inform and evaluate behavioral interventions and practices Attend weekly/bi-weekly Inclusive Education Team meetings Promote high expectations and positive behavior for all students Foster collaboration with faculty and staff to support a positive school climate Travel daily to assigned schools throughout the district

Additional Responsibilities May Include Participate in training and implementation of Practical Functional Assessment and Skills-Based Treatment Track student progress and maintain session documentation using data collection software Train staff on Universal Protocols for student-specific behavior plans Identify student motivators and implement appropriate reinforcement strategies Attend weekly case meetings related to behavior support services

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong understanding of applied behavior analysis (ABA) and PBIS Excellent coaching, training, and relationship-building skills Ability to manage and de-escalate challenging behavior Commitment to educational equity and culturally responsive practices Effective verbal, written, and presentation communication skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple school sites Demonstrated ability to apply a racial equity lens to decision-making

Qualifications & Requirements Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred (in human services, special education, psychology, ABA, or related fields) Experience working with individuals with autism or intellectual disabilities Familiarity with challenging behaviors such as aggression, self-injury, and property destruction Safety Care Specialist Certification or willingness to complete training within 30 days of hire Knowledge of special education law, policies, and practices Reliable transportation and willingness to travel across district locations
