Job Title: Automation Engineer
Location: 8830 Biggs Ford Road Walkersville, MD 21793
Shift & Schedule: Monday - Friday 9:00AM - 5:00PM
Duration: 6 months contract with potential extension or conversion to a direct hire
Pay Rate: $31.34 - $52.23 per hour
Job Description: The Automation & Operational Technology (OT) Engineer is responsible for delivering technical, hands-on support for site-based automation and OT systems. This role ensures the integrity, reliability, security, and compliance of OT infrastructure and industrial automation platforms across manufacturing, utilities, quality control, and laboratory environments. The engineer also identifies opportunities for automation to improve production efficiency, supports automated testing, and creates documentation for automated processes.
Key Responsibilities: Design and support automated equipment, systems, and processes. Implement automated testing to ensure system integrity and compliance. Provide technical support for automation systems across manufacturing, utilities, QC, and labs. Support lifecycle management of OT/automation systems from design through validation. Collaborate on CAPEX/OPEX projects related to automation and OT infrastructure. Maintain and support critical systems, including EMS, Client, PCS, MES/EBR, and LIMS. Ensure data integrity, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance (GMP, 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11). Create and update manuals/documentation related to system operation and process changes. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, or related field. 3-5 years of relevant experience in automation or OT systems. Experience supporting manufacturing and laboratory automation systems. Knowledge of GMP regulations and computerized system compliance (21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11). Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Good communication and documentation abilities. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Environmental Monitoring, Client, PCS, MES/EBR, and LIMS systems. Familiarity with cybersecurity practices for OT environments. Background in CAPEX/OPEX project support. Strong organizational and cross-functional collaboration skills.
