School Adjustment Counselor Grades PreSchool-K

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOALS: To inspire students by demonstrating belief in their students' abilities and by providing the support students need to meet challenging academic demands

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Using district/school data, designs a measurable, strategic plan for the systemic delivery of services, including targeted interventions designed to address inequities and close achievement gaps. 2.Develops and delivers a standards-based counseling curriculum through weekly classes that is designed in the district approved format and supports all students in developing academic competencies and the personal/social skills necessary for success in education. 3.Contributes to school group counseling, or individual sessions that promote equity and access by supporting all students to prepare for, participate in, and succeed in rigorous academic programs. 4.Contributes to development, coordination and implementation of effective strategies for grade-to-grade, and school-to-school transitions for all students. 5.Assesses the effectiveness of transition planning in positively impacting student achievement. 6.Utilizes various assessment techniques to assist students in understanding and developing their abilities and interests. 7.Seeks out and implements evidence-based counseling theories and techniques to deliver short term counseling interventions to resolve immediate conflicts/problems, intervene in school-specific situations that disrupt learning, and respond to crisis events. 8.Assesses the effectiveness of interventions and responses in positively impacting student achievement. 9.Provide daily therapeutic support to students as needed (individual and group therapy) 10.Create social/emotional/behavioral goals for students IEPs. Attend IEP and 504 meetings. 11.Work with staff to design and implement behavior management plan 12.Maintain regular communication with parent/guardian and other appropriate individuals/agencies 13.Function as a resource to students, teachers, administrators, parents and community agents in the areas of child development, interpersonal relationships, communication and decision making skills and group dynamics. 14.Welcomes and encourages every family to become active participants in their child's school experience 15.Uses two way communication with families about student performance and responds promptly and carefully to communication from families. 16.Regularly reflects on his/her practice, individually and with colleagues. 17.Consistently seeks outs and applies ideas for improving practice from supervisors, colleagues, and professional developmental activities to gain expertise. 18.Individually and with colleagues develops strategies develops strategies that contribute to the learning and productive behavior of all students. 19. Responsible to teach whole class SEL curriculum. 20.Performs reasonable professional tasks or duties as may be requested by the Principal.
