Job Description
Summary:
This is a professional, supervisory, and technical position responsible for managing vertical construction, park, and open space development projects from planning through completion. The role involves oversight of architectural and engineering consultants, contractors, and internal project teams to ensure compliance with applicable codes, design standards, and contract requirements. Work includes project coordination, design and construction management, field inspections, and administrative reporting to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee all phases of capital improvement projects, including buildings, parks, and open space facilities.
Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and permitting agencies throughout project development.
Review and analyze construction documents, including design drawings, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
Ensure project compliance with applicable building codes, design standards, and contractual requirements.
Review and recommend approval or modification of consultant and contractor invoices, requisitions, and change orders.
Prepare and advertise bid documents; assist in evaluating proposals and making award recommendations.
Conduct site visits and field inspections to monitor construction progress, quality, and adherence to approved plans.
Prepare progress reports, meeting minutes, and other project documentation for management review.
Coordinate project schedules, budgets, and procurement of goods and services.
Oversee substantial completion and warranty inspections, ensuring timely correction of deficiencies.
Maintain accurate administrative records and project files.
May supervise or provide guidance to inspectors, consultants, and support staff.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience:
2–4 years of experience in the design, construction, or management of building or infrastructure projects.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered (minimum: high school diploma or equivalent plus 6 months–2 years of relevant experience).
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid Florida Class E Driver’s License (or equivalent) must be obtained prior to appointment and maintained throughout employment.
Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by project demands.
Skills & Abilities
Thorough knowledge of architectural and engineering design and construction principles.
Understanding of structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
Familiarity with building materials, methods, and construction systems.
Knowledge of applicable building codes, regulations, and standards.
Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Proficient in reading and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings.
Skilled in preparing and reviewing contracts, cost estimates, and bid documents.
Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with consultants, contractors, and staff.
Capable of preparing detailed reports, maintaining project records, and meeting deadlines under pressure
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work is performed in both office and field environments.
Field duties may involve exposure to outdoor elements, construction sites, and varying weather conditions.
Requires regular use of computers, communication devices, and technical tools.
Frequent walking, climbing, standing, sitting, talking, and hearing are required.
Must occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. and navigate uneven or elevated surfaces.
Requires clear reading, writing, and verbal communication in English.
