Engineering Technician
The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for an Engineering Technician to assist engineers and department staff in the plan, design, and creation of projects; to perform technical and engineering related tasks including map production, computer-aided drafting and design; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for an Engineering Technician to assist engineers and department staff in the plan, design, and creation of projects; to perform technical and engineering related tasks including map production, computer-aided drafting and design; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Layout, draft and design drawings, plats and maps manually and/or with computer aided design software from survey information and field notes for various engineering projects including existing improvements, rights-of-way, sidewalks, easements, cross sections, land transfers, annexations and flood plains. Perform a variety of office surveying duties including calculating complex survey data such as metes and bounds of land transfers, construction quantities, area, square feet, rights-of-way, easements, annexations and closures; review and verify calculations for accuracy. Answer questions and provide information to city staff, private contractors, developers and the general public; provide technical information including locations of tracts and streets, elevation of land, flood information and width and rights-of-way for streets. Prepare, maintain and update a variety of files, plats, charts, plans, drainage and other civil engineering data; compose, prepare and distribute a variety of engineering related correspondence and reports. Analyze existing or proposed pipe systems; design appropriate pipe networks. Prepare cost estimates from designed projects. Review incoming plan submittals for correctness, accuracy and consistency; verify feasibility and cost estimates. Operate a variety of engineering, computer and peripheral equipment including programmable calculators, plotters, reproduction equipment, computer aided design software, drafting tools and other related engineering equipment; maintain equipment as needed. Scan, organize, and verify engineering plans, data, and other documents for retention. Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: One year of experience in technical engineering work. Training: Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering technology or a related field. LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS: Required: None. Preferred: Engineer Intern certification; CAD certification. From the time of closing the selection process is anticipated to last 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
