The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for a Coordinator, District Athletics, Job Code 076, TS 522 (261 days), Salary $99,036.74 - $119,834.91. Collective Bargaining Unit - none.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Coordinator of District Athletics is responsible for the management, evaluation and continuous improvement of The District's student athletic program. Responsibilities and assignments must be performed according to established federal, state, and local guidelines and regulations. Develop, implement, and monitor all student athletic programs to ensure alignment with District goals and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Bachelor's Degree in Education, Psychology, Sports Management, Sports Administration or related field; Extensive experience with athletics, emphasis on coaching, directing or overseeing program development and implementation; Strong quantitative skills in data analysis, interpretation, and employing data-based decision-making models; Clear knowledge, skills and commitment to employing evidence-based models of academic and behavioral intervention; Ability to deescalate and mediate conflict involving multiple stakeholder groups; Extensive background in school, special education, disability, OHSAA by-laws, and Ohio statutory law and its implementation, especially as related to athletic eligibility and registration; Proven capacity to effectively communicate across the Board of Education, District executive staff, administration, and various personnel groups within the District; ?Excellent technology, communication, organizational skills to effectively self-initiate and self-manage numerous competing demands; ?Willing to obtain a Pupil Activity; Have a valid Ohio driver's license. Desired:

Master's Degree or higher in Educational Administration, Curriculum/Instruction, Special Education, School Psychology, or directly related field; Prior experience as a teacher, mentor or other related role; ?Past experience in implementing strategies to ensure staff and student-athletes meet all mandated state and local requirements for participation; Evidence of linking athletic participation to future collegiate athletic participation; Successful experience negotiating OHSAA complaints and settlements; Prior experience in promotion of student-athletic programs, teams, and activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the coordination and supervision of APS Athletics at all grade levels (7-12); Ensure alignment with district educational mission and policies, Title IX compliance and OHSAA policies and guidelines; Foster a culture emphasizing teamwork, leadership and academic balance; Uses data-based decision-making models and evidence-based practices to address structural and procedural needs to identify opportunities for improvement within the athletic programs offered to students; Coordinate district athletic calendars, tournaments, and facility usage across multiple schools; Serves as the district's spokesperson for athletics when necessary; Communicate with parents, community, media and other stakeholders as necessary; Coordinate contracts for officals, referees and other outside vendors used in athletic events; Serves as a liaison to various community agencies to facilitate integrative care between the school district and community partners to support enhancing, providing experiences and exposure to athletics; Assists in the review, revision and implementation of the District's Code of Student Behavior, Athletic Procedures and Policies, Staff Handbooks, and Student-Athlete Handbooks; Provide training and professional development and training opportunities to enhance District coaches; Evaluate athletic programs and make recommendations for changes and/or improvements; Coordinate athletic programming with building athletic directors; Coordinate schedules, transportation, and staffing for athletic programs and events as required; Develop and implement programs to ensure student safety at all times; Develop and manage the athletic department budget including purchasing, inventory, and equipment maintenance; Facilitate the District's Athletic Advisory Committee; Assumes any other responsibilities that may be assigned by the Executive Director, School Leadership, or the Superintendent; Willing to work some evenings and weekends, in addition to daily office time.
