Controller – Your Job Duties Lead all aspects of construction accounting, company cash flow, and financial reporting while mentoring a small team and supporting the company’s strategic financial strategy. Hands-On Accounting & Financial Management Manage daily general ledger activity, process transactions, post journal entries, and ensure accurate reconciliations Lead month-end and year-end close, prepare financial statements, and present results to ownership and leadership Handle A/R, A/P, payroll, and banking transactions directly, ensuring accuracy and compliance Support tax preparation, audits, and maintain strong financial controls Oversee employee benefits and retirement plans, including 401(k) contributions, insurance, and HR-related accounting
Cash Flow & Financial Planning Monitor daily cash activity and maintain overall cash position Manage project funding, collections, and short- and long-term cash flow, ensuring projects stay financially healthy Analyze project and WIP data daily to guide decisions, identify potential issues, and provide actionable insights to leadership and project managers
Construction Accounting, Projects & Compliance Set up and maintain job cost structures and schedules of values for active projects Track WIP, job profitability, and project progress daily, posting adjustments and reconciling accounts as needed Manage contract accounting, billings, insurance documentation, and compliance with California construction laws, prevailing wage, and certified payroll requirements Maintain accounting for multiple entities, including joint ventures
Leadership, Team & Process Development Lead and mentor a small, capable accounting team (accounts payable, billing, payroll, contracts administration) Actively participate in day-to-day accounting tasks alongside the team, reviewing and serving as back up when needed Collaborate with project managers and leadership to improve systems, streamline workflows, and support continued operational success

Required Skills, Experience, and Team Fit You have: Hands-on experience in daily accounting operations, including A/R, A/P, payroll, and month-end close Strong background in construction accounting and job costing (WIP accounting, percentage of completion accounting) Experience preparing financial reporting packages (P&L and balance sheet, monthly) Prior experience managing cash flow Prior experience with leading a team Strong Excel skills and experience using an ERP accounting software You Might Have: Prior experience with SAGE 300 ERP system Knowledge of prevailing wage, certified payroll, and compliance Experience working in accounting with a design/build general contractor Experience working in accounting for a union contractor or a contractor that supports public works projects Background overseeing human resources functions, including insurance and benefits
Controller – Your Perks & Compensation Your compensation will be $150,000 - $160,000 annual salary, depending on your experience level, plus an annual bonus and profit sharing. You will be provided with comprehensive medical, dental and vision benefits with company contribution, paid holidays, paid time off and sick leave, and a 401k plan, company car or stipend. This role is physically located in an office in Woodland, Monday through Friday.
Compensation: $150,000-$160,000 per year
