Position Overview: Our Client in the Utility space is seeking an accomplished Senior Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer to join their innovative wireless communications team. This role is central to the design, optimization, deployment, and troubleshooting of advanced wireless networks - including Land Mobile Radio (LMR), Private LTE (pLTE), Microwave, and Narrowband systems - supporting clients in the electric, gas, and water utility sectors. The ideal candidate brings over a decade of hands-on experience in RF engineering and demonstrates deep technical expertise, strategic problem-solving, and leadership capabilities. You will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), guiding engineering teams on projects of medium to high complexity while collaborating with cross-functional groups to deliver reliable, high-performance wireless communication systems. This role provides opportunities to work directly with clients, lead RF design initiatives, and engage with industry-leading vendors to shape the next generation of utility communications infrastructure. Occasional travel to client sites is required for inspections, testing, and project meetings.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the full RF engineering lifecycle for wireless utility projects - from initial site surveys and propagation modeling through deployment, testing, and performance optimization. Serve as the technical authority and SME for LMR, Microwave, and LTE systems, providing expert guidance on spectrum management, interference analysis, and system performance. Conduct RF modeling, system integration, and field validation, ensuring designs meet reliability, coverage, and capacity objectives. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders - including engineers, project managers, and clients - to align design strategies with operational requirements. Contribute to technical proposals, scopes of work, level-of-effort estimates, and implementation plans. Provide consulting support, develop system recommendations, and participate in business development and client presentations. Mentor junior engineers, uphold quality standards, and ensure adherence to project schedules and budgets.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited program (or international equivalent). Minimum 11 years of relevant experience in wireless communications or RF engineering (utility sector experience preferred). Advanced understanding of RF design principles, standards, and modeling tools. Demonstrated proficiency with LMR, Microwave, and LTE technologies, including hands-on system configuration and testing. Proven experience developing and delivering technical proposals and reports. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills with the ability to solve complex RF challenges. Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging technical and non-technical audiences. Self-motivated with a consultative mindset and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Skills
Direct experience with RF/Microwave equipment configuration and testing. Familiarity with tools for network optimization, interference analysis, and spectrum coordination. Quality assurance and technical documentation experience. Demonstrated success working in cross-functional and client-facing environments.
