Position: Director III, Technology Services Department: Business Services FLSA: Exempt Reports To: Assistant Superintendent, Business Services Pay Grade: Classified Mgmt.

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, Business Services, the Director III, Technology Services will plan, organize, control, supervise, coordinate and direct District technology services and activities; serve as a technical resource and coordinate technical support for District personnel; train and supervise the performance of assigned personnel; and coordinate assigned activities with each District school site and the Central Office.

ESSENTIAL TYPES OF DUTIES (Examples) • Plans, organizes, controls and directs District technology services and activities; develops, implements and maintains technology systems and services; ensures that appropriate equipment, materials, personnel and resources are available to meet District technology needs; ensures that technology activities are performed in compliance with applicable laws, codes and regulations; • Develops new network expansions; researches, plans, reviews, recommends, and implements expansions for all Local and Wide Area Networks including inter/intra-campus communications systems for data, video and voice communications; • Provides technical expertise, information and assistance to the Assistant Superintendent regarding technology functions; assists in the formulation and development of policies, procedures and programs to assure an economical, safe and efficient work environment; advises the Assistant Superintendent of unusual trends or problems and recommends appropriate corrective action; • Plans, organizes and implements long and short-term technology plans and activities designed to enhance assigned programs and services; • Develops and prepares the annual preliminary budget for the Department; analyze and review budgetary and financial data; controls and authorizes expenditures in accordance with established limitations; • Coordinates technology integration into curriculum; • Coordinates the District's E-Rate applications; • Investigates and coordinates system enhancements; • Develops and maintains the District's Five Year Technology Plan; • Maintains all computers, peripherals and software to the standards adopted by the Five Year Technology Plan; • Develops and maintains the District capital replacement plan related to technology; • Acts as the Chairperson and Facilitator of the District Technology Committee; • Coordinates the acceptance and hook-up of all donated computer equipment and software; • Evaluates, recommends and coordinates the purchase and implementation of necessary computer hardware and/or software; • Provides professional and technical advice and training to administrative, instructional, and Technology Services staff; • Recommends policy and management decisions relating to computers, work stations, curriculum integration, software, security, and related technology; • Attends and conducts a variety of meetings as assigned; and • Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and Skills: Requires knowledge of planning, organization and direction of technology services and activities; installation and maintenance of LAN, WAN and telephone systems; network components including bridges, routers, hubs and cabling; technical aspects of computer training and support; budget preparation and control; oral and written communication skills; principles and practices of administration, supervision and training; applicable laws, codes regulations, policies and procedures; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; operation of a computer and assigned software; principles and methods of systems analysis and computer programming; principles and methods of information processing, storage retrieval, and networking; pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations; and District operations, relevant policies, and goals and objectives.

Abilities: Requires the ability to plan, organize, control and direct District technology services and activities; coordinate, develop, install and maintain a variety of software and information systems and applications for various departments; supervise the performance of assigned personnel; serve as a technical resource and coordinate technical support for District personnel; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; operate a computer and assigned office equipment; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; meet schedules and time-lines; work independently with little direction; plan and organize work; prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports; evaluate and coordinate the collaboration and implementation of technology integration into student instructional programs; and interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations.

Education and Experience: Any combination of a Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related field, or training equivalent to graduation from an accredited 4-year college in the area of computer science, business, public administration or other acceptable field; and, five years of increasingly responsible experience in the administration of technology services and activities; responsible supervisory or managerial experience in the development and maintenance of computers and network systems, computer and technology repair services, system programming, and user training.

Licenses and Certificates: Valid California driver's license, TB Test clearance, Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance.
