Description: A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse focuses on safe, effective patient and family-centered care. Customer satisfaction and quality outcomes are priorities. The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit. Promoting development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education is essential. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members. Applying the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care is required. The RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care. Patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction are emphasized. The RN applies educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care. Mentoring and precepting staff is also a key responsibility.
Responsibilities include: Assessment: Performing assessments and reassessments per policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition. Demonstrating the ability to make sound independent decisions is critical. Development and Implementation: Initiating, prioritizing, and implementing the plan of care. Reviewing and revising the plan as indicated is necessary. Collaboration with patient/family and interdisciplinary services is required. Utilizing resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization, patient, and family is essential. Evaluation: Monitoring and documenting responses to clinical interventions is part of the role. Education: Facilitating, coordinating, providing, and evaluating education specific to patient/family needs is crucial. Leadership: Delegating tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel is expected. Functioning as a mentor/preceptor and encouraging teamwork is vital. Identifying and communicating opportunities for improvement is necessary. Participation in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts is required. Compliance with regulatory standards is essential. Participation in the Practice Governance model is also part of the responsibilities.
