Senior Level

position is $54,912.00 - $65,644.80. Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 35% percentile. Pay grade for this position is 20. *******At the discretion of management, applicants who do not fully meet the requirements for a Senior Level Electrical Technician may be considered for a lower-level position and corresponding grade. However, all new hires must obtain a limited electrical license issued by the State of North Carolina within two years of their hire date.

General Definition of Work:

Performs difficult skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and installation of various types of electrical equipment and electrical distribution systems in County facilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Building Maintenance Supervisor.

Examples of Duties Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:

Reviewing wiring plans for new installations and communicating with department project managers; troubleshooting, repairing, planning, installing, and maintaining electrical equipment such as control panels, switchboards, junction boxes, switches, etc.; planning may involve determination of method and sequence of operation, selection of materials to be used, and establishment of work procedures; connects and disconnects electrical powered machines; maintaining records and files; preparing reports.

* Installs new electrical services, panel boxes, generators and wiring.

* Troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces electrical equipment, motors, and generators.

* Performs preventive maintenance on electrical equipment.

* Make adjustments to, replaces, and/or repairs electrical controls.

* Checks, rewires, and replaces electrical components as conductors, starters, relays, switches, lights, ballasts, bulbs, etc.

* Installs conduit for electrical and data services.

* Works from wiring diagrams.

* May provide direction to less experienced electricians.

* Works closely with HVAC to assist in the troubleshooting of HVAC electrical components.

* Works closely with County information technology staff on County operated Uninterrupted Power Supply systems.

* Works with Infrastructure and Asset Management managers on energy efficient projects and grant applications providing electrical expertise.

* Completes assigned work orders and work order reports.

* Performs other building maintenance tasks as assigned.

* Performs related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools, and terminology of the electrical trade. Thorough knowledge of the use and characteristics of high and low voltage electricity. Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with the trade; skill in the use of tools and equipment; ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans, or specifications; basic computer skills; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to estimate needed materials and time required for various jobs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. Minimum Education / Experience requirements Education and Experience: Requires graduation from high school with some formal technical school training; And three years of experience in the electrical trade, including installation, repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical control and power distribution systems; Requires possession of a limited electrical license issued by the state of North Carolina. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Classification Note: Reclassification from an Electrical Technician to a Senior Electrical Technician is made once the employee is in possession of the required license. Special Requirements: Requires possession of a limited electrical license issued by the state of North Carolina or the ability to obtain licensure within two years. Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Position is a safety-sensitive position as defined by the Drug Free Workplace Policy. Some overtime and after-hours work is required. Physical Requirements:

This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
