Residential Education seeks a collaborative and student-centered professional to serve as the Assistant Director for Recruitment, Training, and Leadership. At the University of South Florida, Residential Education takes a holistic approach to student learning and development. We are seeking an educator who is both detail-oriented and forward-thinking, with the ability to strengthen our focus on student success and excellence. As a member of the Residential Education leadership team, the Assistant Director provides vision, coordination, and strategic direction for staff recruitment, training, and student leadership initiatives. This role is integral to cultivating a high-performing team of residential professional staff, enhancing student engagement, and fostering a community where students thrive personally, socially, and academically. The Assistant Director will partner across the department and the university to ensure programs, services, and operations reflect best practices in residential education while advancing the mission and values of USF.

Responsibilities

Recruitment and Selection Leads, designs, implements and assess staff selection for all levels of staff within Residential Education, inclusive of student staff and graduate staff. Collaborate with Program Director for Academic Initiatives and Residential Community Programs and Assistant Directors in Residential Education to meet full time, graduate, and student staff selection needs. Serves as a liaison with the College of Education and the College of Student Affairs Program for graduate assistantship selection processes. Recruits and retains diverse student, graduate, and professional staff to the department. Manages undergraduate, graduate, and full time staff on boarding and off boarding processes. Collaborates with Residence Life Coordinators to coordinate all items related to student winter break employment.

Training and Development Designs on-boarding, on-going training, development programs and processes for full time, graduate, and undergraduate staff, specifically focusing on learning goals within the Residential Education Residential Curriculum. Collaborate with Program Director for Academic Initiatives and Residential Community Programs and Assistant Directors in Residential Education to meet the needs of full-time, graduate and undergraduate staff training and development programs. Shares various training offerings provided nationally and at USF to provide comprehensive opportunities for staff. Collaborates with campus partners in training and development opportunities.

Supervision and Student Leadership Supervises the Coordinator for Recruitment, Training, and Leadership, assisting in staff recruitment and training, and overseeing Residence Hall Association (RHA) and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH). Maintains strong connections with companies used by the student leadership organizations to raise funds for student initiatives. Functionally oversees committees within Residential Education to move training, recruitment, and selection processes forward.

Administrative Manages all student staff employment records. Works with our Student Success Resource Management and Development (RMD) and representatives of Department of Human resources at USF to drive our processes productively forward. Participates in USF, Student Success, and departmental development activities. Stays current in higher education, employee learning, etc. (through readings, trainings, workshops, conferences). Coordinates budget for all areas related to the Assistant Director for Recruitment, Training, and Leadership position. Assistant Director for Training, Selection, and Leadership may be asked to serve on-call in a mid manager duty rotation, and is an emergency personnel during times of emergencies and evacuations on campus.

Leadership Serves as a member of the Residential Education Leadership Team to provide overall leadership, direction, coordination, collaboration and guidance for all Residential Education programs, services, and operations. Contributes to the Residential Education vision, mission and values through participation in strategic planning, department goal setting, and determining priorities. Infuses best practices into processes, ensuring the creation of safe, secure, and learner-centered environments using a curricular approach to education in the residence halls. Serves as a role model and vision caster for areas related to the position where efficiency and excellence can be enhanced.

Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of four years related exempt experience, including two years of supervisory experience.

Senate Bill 1310- The Florida Senate (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/1310) is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S.

SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements

A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:

(a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree; (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree; (c) Six years of direct experience for a master's degree; (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree

Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.

Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
