Primary Purpose:

Performs general bookkeeping and maintain campus financial records, including campus activity fund to assist in the attainment of district goals by effective and efficient performance of bookkeeping functions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification

High school diploma or GED (Recognized by the Texas Education Agency or Regional Accrediting Agency)

Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee.

Required Experience: (Meet one of the following)

One (1) year accounting and bookkeeping experience

Three (3) years of general clerical/secretarial experience or fifteen (15) hours of college credit

Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of accounting principles and practices

Ability to use calculator (10 key by touch)

Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets and do word processing

Proficient skills in typing, keyboarding, and file maintenance

Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records

Ability to follow oral and written instructions

Ability to work with minimum supervision

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to communicate and to maintain effective working relationships with administrators, teachers, other personnel, students, and the public

The bookkeeper assists with fostering analytical and collaborative environment activities such as the following:

Examines, verifies, and corrects accounting transactions to ensure completeness and accuracy of data and proper identification of accounts Posts data to transaction sheets on which employee identifies proper accounts and items to be posted Prepares monthly and other periodic campus financial reports Prepares and enter all campus purchase requisitions into financial data system Compiles and maintains physical and computerized files and records and files all reports, records, and other documents as required Organization Management

The bookkeeper manages administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:

Performs one or more accounting tasks such as: posting to register and ledgers, balancing and reconciling accounts, verifying the internal consistency, completeness, and mathematical accuracy of accounting documents, preparing journal vouchers or making entries of adjustment to accounts Performs routine clerical functions as they relate to the clerical processing and recording of transactions and accounting information Maintains complete and systematic records of campus financial transactions according to established procedures and generally accepted accounting principles Processes and accounts for all money generated and distributed in school-sponsored activities, including receipt of cash, preparing and making cash deposits Maintain inventory of campus fixed assets, equipment, and supplies Assists campus with campus budget preparation Maintains all campus receipt books and ensure fidelity to district processing standards Processes all travel/conference forms Processes all campus field trip forms Maintains campus keys Communication and Community Relations

The bookkeeper promotes a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:

Responds to routine inquiries from campus staff, district staff, and students Receives incoming calls and promptly responds to all inquiries Uses effective communication skills Professional Growth and Development

The bookkeeper participates in professional growth and development through activities such as the following:

Participates in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned Keeps informed of and complies with state and district policies and regulations concerning primary job function through training as needed Qualities of an Effective Bookkeeper

Computer, printer, copier, telephone, scanner, fax machine, calculator, shredder, and other equipment applicable to the position.

May work prolonged or irregular hours and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends Works with frequent interruptions and maintains emotional control under stress May require prolonged sitting and prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions/frequent keyboarding Moderate standing, stooping, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, lifting, and twisting Occasional light lifting and carrying Occasional district wide and statewide travel Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, low or intense illumination or vibration. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, etc.) work outsides, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces
