Maintenance Technician II
The City of Roanoke's Department of Public Works is seeking a Maintenance Technician II to join the Green Infrastructure team within the Stormwater Division. This position performs skilled work in the operation of heavy motorized equipment to support the maintenance and improvement of stormwater systems. Work includes repairs and renovations to stormwater conveyance infrastructure such as pipes, manholes, and inlets, along with other maintenance and support tasks as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operates a variety of equipment, including combination sewer cleaner vehicles, dump trucks, and other assigned heavy or light equipment. Assists with the use of associated hand tools required to complete assigned tasks. Supports mowing and landscape operations as needed. Performs snow removal, assists with special events, and responds to emergency tasks, which may include night, holiday, or weekend work. Adheres to all safety regulations related to work areas, equipment operation, and task completion. Participates in standby duty, requiring availability for nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary. Completes additional assignments and tasks in support of the division. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. One to three years of related experience and/or training in storm drain or street maintenance, dump truck operation, and heavy manual labor; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with N (Tanker) endorsement, or the ability to obtain within six months of employment. Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Depending on area of assignment, may require possession of an appropriate class A, B or C commercial driver's license with Hazardous Material and tank endorsement. May require Playground Inspection Certification to be acquired after hire. May require journey-level licensure in an area of skilled trades. Physical Demands
