What to Expect

We are looking for a skilled Thermal Safety System Architecture Engineer to join the Safety Architecture team within Tesla Energy. In this role, you will focus on developing models for thermal safety in battery energy storage systems, planning and guiding tests to validate these models, and contributing to the overall safety and performance of Tesla's products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust thermal event management and risk mitigation strategies for Energy Products. What You'll Do

Develop and refine computational models for thermal safety in battery packs, including heat transfer, combustion, gas distribution, and propagation Define product safety requirements based on modeling, industry standards, and past test results, guiding product design with clear technical documentation Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and service teams to integrate modeling insights into product development Develop and support execution of test plans to validate both models and adherence to product safety requirements Analyze test data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement in thermal safety systems Document findings, prepare reports, and present recommendations to stakeholders Support compliance with industry standards and regulations related to thermal safety Stay updated on emerging technologies in thermal modeling software and testing methodologies What You'll Bring

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, heat transfer, combustion, and fluid mechanics 3+ years of experience in thermal systems modeling and/or computational fluid dynamics (CFD), using tools such as ANSYS, COMSOL, MATLAB/Simulink, STAR-CCM, Fluent, OpenFOAM, and FDS Experience in test planning and execution, including instrumentation, data acquisition, and safety protocols Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment Strong communication skills for technical reporting and team interactions Experience with battery systems, electric vehicles, and/or energy storage technologies is a plus

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
