Overview HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia and the sole designer and builder of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers.
Role Summary Conduct technical analysis of welding product implementations, troubleshoot issues, provide solutions, and act as the local on‑site representative to the customer organization.
Responsibilities
Analyze product implementations, modifications and enhancements per customer specifications.
Troubleshoot technical problems and determine solutions.
Provide training and briefings to customers, vendors and internal representatives.
Lead a team of Welding Project Leaders to improve welding productivity, mechanization, and quality.
Communicate welding technical issues to deck plate customers and provide timely welding directions.
Support both internal and external customers on site.
Qualifications
Apprentice Certification or Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 6 years progressive technical, professional and/or supervisory experience.
Strong knowledge of welding and inspection processes in shipyard welding.
Understanding of welding and quality principles and concepts.
Leadership and communication skills to manage a team and stakeholders.
Strong organization skills and ability to work on‑site.
Preferred Experience
10 years shipyard welding or welding engineering experience.
Proficiency in welding equipment and welding quality requirements.
