Sociology Adjunct (Spring/Summer 2026) Virginia Community College System

– Germanna Community College, Germanna Division.

About the Position Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in sociology to students from a variety of academic backgrounds. This role requires teaching both in‑person and online courses, with a teaching load of up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and up to 8 credit hours in summer sessions.

Responsibilities

Teach designated sociology courses.

Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.

Maintain student records, assign grades, and assess progress.

Adhere to all policies, procedures, and regulations of GCC and the VCCS.

Maintain current competence in sociology.

Essential Functions Provide quality instruction, meet scheduled classes, submit required records and reports routinely, and adhere to professional ethics as outlined in College policies.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree with at least eighteen graduate semester hours in Sociology.

Demonstrated ability to teach in both classroom and online settings.

Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Proficiency with instructional technology and willingness to learn emerging tools such as artificial intelligence applications.

(Preferred) Prior teaching experience and experience developing online courses in synchronous and asynchronous environments.

Additional Considerations

Will be expected to travel to all campus locations.

Position located in Virginia; candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance or be willing to relocate.
