Position Overview The
Process & Quality Engineer
at
Quirk Wire Company
ensures that products and manufacturing processes consistently meet customer, regulatory, and industry standards. This role combines technical knowledge of wire and cable construction with expertise in quality systems, lean manufacturing, and environmental compliance. The Process & Quality Engineer will drive continuous improvement, optimize production efficiency, and serve as a key technical resource across the organization.
Key Responsibilities Process Engineering
Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing processes including extrusion, taping/wrapping, cabling, braiding, and jacketing.
Collaborate with Applications Engineering to translate customer and design requirements into repeatable, efficient manufacturing methods.
Implement lean practices to reduce waste, improve yield, and increase throughput.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Maintain and enhance Quirk’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System and support internal/external audits.
Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, MIL-DTL, SAE, ASTM, NEMA, and customer-specific requirements.
Lead corrective and preventive action activities (CARs, 8D, root cause analysis).
Monitor and analyze key quality metrics (scrap rate, RMA, first-pass yield) to identify trends and drive improvement.
Environmental & Regulatory
Ensure compliance with environmental and chemical regulations (REACH, RoHS, TSCA, Prop 65, PFAS).
Support sustainability initiatives and respond to customer environmental compliance inquiries.
Manage supplier quality documentation and material declarations.
Continuous Improvement
Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies to enhance process capability and product quality.
Develop and maintain operator training materials and process documentation to ensure consistency and reduce variability.
Support equipment selection, qualification, and validation for process capability and compliance.
Customer & Cross-Functional Support
Partner with Sales and Applications Engineering to provide technical and quality input on customer requirements.
Interface directly with customers during audits, corrective actions, and product performance investigations.
Provide technical guidance and support to Production, Purchasing, and Quality teams.
Skills & Knowledge
Some understanding of wire & cable materials preferred (copper conductors, plating, PTFE, PFA, FEP, Kapton, glass braid, etc.).
Proficiency in manufacturing processes such as extrusion, cabling, wrapping, braiding, and jacketing.
Experience with quality systems (ISO 9001 required; AS9100 a plus).
Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
Experience with MRP/ERP systems.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Education & Background
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials/Polymer, or Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering preferred.
Experience in the wire & cable or related manufacturing industry strongly preferred.
Certifications in Lean, Six Sigma, or Quality Systems (CQE, CQA, or equivalent) are a plus.
Equivalent technical experience in manufacturing or quality roles will be considered in lieu of a degree.
