About the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering The department has 44 faculty members and serves about 1,900 undergraduate and 260 graduate students. It offers ABET‑accredited B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering. Research focuses include advanced manufacturing, advanced materials, industrial & systems engineering, mechanics, vibrations & acoustics, robotics & controls, and thermal‑fluids & energy.

Job Overview The College of Engineering and Applied Science invites applications for multiple full‑time tenure‑track faculty positions in the Mechanical Engineering Program.

Candidates will be considered in two broad areas:

Mechanics – experimental, theoretical, or computational mechanics (fracture, inelasticity, energy materials, soft materials, bio‑mechanics).

Vibrations & Acoustics – smart materials and structures, vibration and noise control, metamaterials, nonlinear dynamics, rotor dynamics, MEMS/NEMS, structural health monitoring, biomedical acoustics.

Essential Functions

Teach graduate and undergraduate engineering courses in the candidate’s specialty and participate in curriculum development.

Develop externally funded research programs in the specialty area, publish research in professional journals, and advise graduate and undergraduate students.

Participate in professional service activities such as editorial/peer review, serving on departmental, college, and university committees, and performing outreach activities such as speaking at recruiting events, hosting lab tours, and helping with summer camps.

Minimum Requirements Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field required prior to the effective date of appointment.
