The Role The position will support plant maintenance and building construction. Responsibilities may include drafting blueprints, supervising construction projects, ensuring compliance with legal and environmental regulations, planning and designing infrastructure such as roads and sewage systems, and coordinating with consultants, contractors and local enforcement agencies to complete projects on time and within budget. The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of civil engineering principles, excellent analytical skills and the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team.

Analyses, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non‑metallic or composite structural materials for product design or operation of equipment including structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability, stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.

Must Have

Bachelor’s Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;

Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;

Ph.D. and 4 years of experience;

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
