About MCCJ The Madera Coalition for Community Justice is a grassroots, community-based nonprofit founded in 1992. MCCJ works to build community capacity through outreach, education, leadership development, and advocacy. Our programs uplift historically underrepresented communities by addressing environmental justice, youth empowerment, health equity, digital literacy, and immigrant rights.

Position Overview The Environmental Justice Program Coordinator will lead efforts to educate, engage, and empower residents around environmental health, air quality, and climate equity issues impacting Madera County communities. This position focuses on strengthening community participation in environmental decision‑making, coordinating local campaigns, and collaborating with partner agencies, residents, and youth.

The ideal candidate is community‑driven, organized, and passionate about environmental and social justice.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate MCCJ’s environmental justice projects and partnerships (e.g., CAG4, LCERP, EV equity, air quality monitoring).

Plan and facilitate community meetings, outreach events, and educational workshops.

Build and maintain relationships with community members, CBOs, and government partners.

Support residents in understanding local and regional environmental policies and programs.

Collect data and feedback from community engagement activities to inform program planning and reporting.

Assist with grant deliverables, reporting, and compliance tracking.

Supervise interns, volunteers, and youth participants when assigned.

Represent MCCJ in regional coalitions and community forums.

Qualifications

Commitment to MCCJ’s mission and values of justice, equity, and community empowerment.

Experience in environmental justice, public health, or community engagement (paid or volunteer).

Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills (bilingual English/Spanish preferred).

Ability to plan and execute community meetings and outreach events.

Comfortable working with diverse populations, including youth and rural communities.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and virtual platforms (Zoom, Canva a plus).

Valid CA driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of California climate and air quality initiatives (AB 617, CARB, SJVAir, etc.).

Experience collecting community data and developing outreach materials.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small, mission‑driven team.
