Position Information

Position Title Maintenance Mechanic

Job Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the College's fleet vehicles, grounds equipment, small engines, and related mechanical systems. The position supports Campus Operations by performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment repair, inventory management, deliveries, vendor coordination, and general mechanical support, including irrigation systems. The Maintenance Mechanic also assist with snow removal and responds to emergency calls as needed

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Understand and perform minor and major preventative maintenance actions on a vehicle fleet and grounds equipment. • Working knowledge of general mechanical repair of engine parts and auto systems. • Possess strong organizational skills • Demonstrate clear and effective written and verbal communication skills • Ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. • Ability to use practical application of mathematics in general construction and facilities repair and maintenance work. • Ability to work independently • Able to cooperatively work with diverse groups of students and staff • Understanding of basic computer operations and office equipment

Required Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent • 1 - 3 years of specialized training in automotive technology, small engine repair, or maintenance of grounds equipment (e.g., mowers, plows) • 1 - 3 years' experience in facilities maintenance

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Demands • Work is normally performed in an indoor setting; however this position requires reaching, standing, walking, repetitive motions. • Some work is to be performed outside. Noise levels can be loud. Shop conditions may expose position to fumes, noxious odors, gases and toxic or caustic chemicals. • This position requires activity that may require incumbent to lift 50lbs on occasion; 20lbs frequently, and 10lbs consistently.

Description of Job Duty • Maintain and schedule the usage of all College's fleet vehicles, including buses. • Performs scheduled and preventative maintenance activities (e.g., oil changes, brake inspections, filter replacements, ensure vehicles are clean inside and out) and minor repairs. • Maintain inventory and supplies for parts and initiate requests for repair parts and equipment. Also, maintain accurate service and maintenance logs. • Operate forklifts to unload deliveries, transport materials, and distribute shipments to departments and locations across campus. • Perform monthly preventative maintenance on campus-wide emergency generators and air compressors. • Maintain and repair snow removal equipment, including the installation and removal of plows and salt boxes. • Provide snow removal support, including manual shoveling of sidewalks. • Maintain and repair all lawn care equipment. • Maintain and perform preventative maintenance work orders throughout the building as requested • Reviews work orders to determine daily work assignments in coordination with direction from supervisor. • Health and safety procedures based on information and recommendations made by supervisor. • Perform other duties of a similar nature as directed.
