Normal Work Schedule:
8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., some evening and weekends may be required
Job Summary:
The Retention Specialist performs a variety of duties with significant scope and complexity in the development and implementation of effective student retention strategies and recovery interventions for students who have been placed on academic warning and/or probation. Work is periodically reviewed by the supervisor for adherence to department/division goals, the Academic Standing policy, and effectiveness of results.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinates intervention and recovery efforts for at-risk students including referrals to academic support services, counseling, disability resources, and academic and career advisors. Works closely with faculty through progress reports to identify student learning needs, and assists in the development of retention efforts. Monitors academic progress of students placed on academic warning and/or probation, provides outreach and interventions for at-risk students, and collects and reports detailed retention data each semester. Maintains continuous communication with Academic Support and Success support staff including tutors, SI leaders, peer learning coaches, and graduate assistants. Ensures adherence to operating policies and procedures, data collection, and retention efforts within Academic Support and Success and the Student Success Center. Participates in professional growth and development activities including staff meetings, staff development activities, webinars, and local and national conferences. Provides training and presentations on the University's Academic Standing policy and academic recovery efforts to faculty, academic support staff, and SSC 101 and SSC 104 students as needed. Teaches SSC 101, First Year Experience, as needed. Assists with Academic Support and Success student staff training each semester including tutors, SI leaders, peer learning coaches, and graduate assistants. Participates in Preview Day, Accepted Students Day, Gamecock Orientation, Freshmen Convocation, graduation, and other University-sponsored activities and events. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Administration, Counseling, Education, Social Work, or related field, and One (1) year full-time experience working in a professional academic support role in higher education or related experience Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Administration, Counseling, Education, Social Work, or related field, and Two (2) years full-time experience working in a professional academic support role in higher education or related experience Required Documents:
