Department: Academic Support and Success Start Date: 5 January 2026 Annual Salary: $40,840.00 – $42,840.00 Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (flexible; regular evenings & occasional weekend work)

Job Summary As part of a holistic strategic effort to support at‑risk students, the Learning Specialist provides individualized support centered around learning strategies and academic skills. The specialist ensures assigned students understand course assignments, develop organizational systems, address cognitive deficiencies, and coordinates with academic staff to guarantee at‑risk first and second‑year students receive appropriate academic assistance.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as learning specialist for at‑risk first- and second‑year students.

Help students understand assignments, develop organizational systems, and address cognitive deficiencies.

Coordinate with assistants, mentors, tutors, and other Student Success Center team members to provide appropriate academic assistance.

Implement initiatives that promote equitable learning environments for all students.

Manage the high‑impact educational assistant program.

Administer screening assessments such as the Nelson Denny Reading Test and LASSI.

Apply best practices and research on student success, learning resources, and support.

Document each appointment with a summary report via Navigate 360.

Provide recommendations and resources during each learning session.

Supervise and mentor Academic Support staff, including tutors, SI leaders, and graduate assistants.

Perform additional academic support duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychometry, Psychology, Counseling, English, Math, Linguistics, or related field.

Two (2) years’ experience working with underprepared or at‑risk students.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field.

Three (3) or more years’ experience with underprepared or at‑risk students.
