General Description / Primary Purpose :
The Senior Accountant, under the direction of an Assistant Controller or above, assists in the design, development and implementation of departmental processes and/or programs. Recommends policies and procedures to ensure effective coordination of departmental programs.
Job Functions :
Journal Entries and Monthly Processes Prepare, review, and key journal entries to ensure accurate and timely financial transactions. Process monthly journal entries for Housing, Student Union, Auxiliary Overhead, Interest allocation and Deferred Revenue. Reconcile monthly P/T/Ghost-Card liability accounts and card statement. Record University returned checks, not related to student AR. Seasonal and Annual Accounting Responsibilities
Collect and review supply and resale inventory information from campus departments; prepare year-end journal vouchers for the inventory. Prepare annual Deferred Revenue journal entries, including reclassification of Noncurrent to Current portions and accrual of interest for areas such as Osprey Café, Canteen, Chartwells, Follett, and Starbucks. Prepare year-end Housing and Student Union entries. Establish the fiscal year monthly overhead allocation for Fund 325000 and process the first month's journal entry in July. Review and document revenue-generating contracts for GASB 60 - Service Concession Arrangement implications. Assist with supply and resale inventory Financial Reporting and Audit Support
Record AFS entries to capture balances for Discretely Presented Component Units (e.g., MOCA, TSI, Foundation). Record AFS entries to reclassify Due To/Due From Component Units as Notes Receivable or Accounts Receivable. Prepare assigned Notes to the Financial Statements, including: oDiscretely Presented Component Units

Assist with the preparation of Financial Statements, DFS schedules, MD&A, and RSI. Provide auditors with requested information and supporting documentation. Campus Support and Collaboration
Assist with daily campus transfer requests and review/approval of journal transfers. Serve as a resource to the campus community on journal transfer questions and related accounting issues. Conduct Auxiliary reconciliations and reviews, Support the Controller's Office during Workday stabilization, including entry review, system testing, and reporting improvements. Serve as the Controller's Office representative on University committees related to assigned areas of responsibility. Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Marginal Functions :
Responds to University community's requests for assistance with problems and questions related to accounting.

Supervision Received :
This position will require minimal supervision by the Coordinator of Accounting and is expected to exercise independent judgement and discretion. The incumbent develops procedures for performing a variety of complex duties within established guidelines; has considerable freedom while the work is in process and receives instructions on new assignments.
Level of Public Contact :
This position has daily contact internally with faculty, staff and departmental administrators.
Monetary Responsibility :
This position assists with the proper financial reporting of funds in excess of $100 million dollars annually. Any degree in error can result in severe consequences such as a qualified audit opinion.
Policy-making and/or Interpretation :
This position will assist in the interpretation of established University Board of Trustees and the State Board of Governors policies relating to accounting practices. This position will assist in the interpretation of Florida Statutes and federal regulations as they relate to Accounting procedures. This position will assist in the development of policies as they relate to the Accounting Principles within the Controller's Office.
Program Direction and Development :
This position helps to ensure that the goals and objectives of the Controller's Office/General Accounting Unit are understood and met. This position helps to develop procedures to help meet these goals and objectives. Provides direction to Accountants as it relates to policies, programs and procedures. Helps to ensure that the financial and administrative needs of a diverse and dynamic campus community are met, while helping to ensure appropriate legal compliance and the financial health and integrity of the University is maintained.
Required Qualifications Master's or Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
