POSITION: Plant Maintenance II

POSITION NO: 7.130

DEPT: Utilities

This is skilled work in the operation of water and sewer facilities on an assigned shift. Work of this class involves working in a lead capacity, including supervision, and participating with one or more assistants involved in the operation and care of a variety of utility plant equipment and components. Work requires thorough understanding of a wide variety of mechanical and chemical processes and related equipment, as well as an awareness and alertness regarding operational modification which may be necessary in emergency situations. Employee may work weekends and holidays and be on call. Employees in this class generally perform routine tasks with considerable independence, although a technical superior is generally available, or on call. work is reviewed through inspection, and by observing effectiveness and continuity of plant operation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of methods, tools, and materials used in the installation of chemical feed lines, ejectors, and pneumatic lines. Some knowledge of methods, tools and materials used for building maintenance.. Working knowledge of electrical wiring and general electrical work. Ability to train assistants in the repair and maintenance of lift stations, wells, and water plant equipment. Perform installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of electrical systems, instrumentation, and control equipment. Maintain and troubleshoot MCCs, VFDs, PLCs, RTUs, and SCADA systems. Conduct loop checks and calibrations for flow, pressure, level, and chemical dosing instrumentation. Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations. Support commissioning of new equipment and modifications. Prepare detailed maintenance records, calibration certificates, and as-built drawings. Respond to alarms, equipment failures, and system outages in a timely manner. Operates voltmeters, ammeters, megohm meters, and high voltage test equipment. Perform other work as required. Training, Certification, and Experience

High school graduate, or acceptable GED, with skilled mechanical experience. Maintenance work involving the installation, repair and maintenance of pumps auxiliary engines, chemical feeders, pneumatic and hydraulic lines and similar equipment. Preferable experience will include maintenance of lift stations, wells, and water plant facilities. Or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Special Requirements

In the event of an emergency or natural/manmade disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by Emergency Management or City Administration. Such assignments may be before, during, and after an emergency or disaster. Technical diploma/certification in Electrical or Instrumentation preferred. Strong knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.), SCADA systems, and electrical troubleshooting preferred.
