Role: Data Engineer Location: Houston, TX 77002 Duration: 6+ Month Contract Hybrid (3-4 days in office) Rate: $60/hour W2 Note: Local candidates with retail energy experience We are seeking a Data Engineer, Business Intelligence to join the Retail Business Intelligence team to strengthen BI capabilities for the client. 4+ years of data management, modelling, and BI experience are required. The candidate should have strong data modeling, data visualization background and be able to interact with business stakeholders to gather and understand requirements and reporting needs. Ability to learn new technologies, adapt quickly, and work well individually and in a team is essential. Responsibilities
Gather large and complex data sets to meet business requirements Redesign data marts for scalability and optimization Ensure data architecture supports existing and future business requirements Identify, design, and implement process improvements: automate manual processes, optimize data delivery, redesign infrastructure for scalability Create and maintain documentation for each step in the data lifecycle Develop and maintain operational dashboards and executive-level reporting using tools like Tableau or Power BI Interact with functional business units to analyze, gather, and prioritize reporting requirements Partner with Enterprise Data and Analytics leaders to manage key data processes, tools, and architectures Collaborate with the Enterprise Data and Analytics team to implement data management and data quality best practices Partner with business leaders to develop, monitor, and report on marketing tests for products and campaigns Provide ad hoc reports for Retail organization experiments in market Hands-on development of data models in Oracle, AWS, and data visualizations Formulate and provide status updates on project plans and schedules Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in CS, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline with 4+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 3+ years Hands-on experience in programming languages such as SAS, R, or Python 4+ years in business intelligence and data analysis 3+ years of SQL experience 3+ years of programming experience Experience with dimensional modeling and improving data reliability and quality Good understanding of cloud technologies with 1+ year hands-on AWS and big data distributed ecosystems 2+ years hands-on experience in Databricks and Google Cloud Platform 2+ years experience with Tableau or Power BI Good understanding of relational and non-relational databases Experience working with large datasets Preferred Qualifications
Gas or power industry experience with knowledge of the retail electricity market Experience performing root cause analysis on data and processes Proven ability to manipulate, process, and extract value from large datasets Strong organizational skills and ability to work with multiple stakeholders Comfortable with ambiguity and translating incomplete data into actionable items Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Effective written and verbal communication across audiences Self-starter with strong work ethic Ability to quickly learn modern technologies Strong data due diligence skills ensuring data accuracy and reliability Working Conditions
