Overview The Facilities/Maintenance Specialist fulfills the mission of the Catholic school and church by following routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds. The Facilities/Maintenance Specialist reports directly to the Facilities Director and collaborates with the members of the school administration to ensure maximum efficiency in the use of parish and school resources.

Ministerial Character Positions employed at St. Louis Catholic Church and Bishop Reicher Catholic School help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Employees help the Pastor with the vision of the parish and school. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his/her ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.

Essential Duties

Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic Education and the mission of the school and church.

Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school, parish, and diocese.

Maintains confidentiality regarding school and church matters.

Keep buildings and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas neat and clean.

Perform general maintenance, cleaning, custodial needs, and repairs for facilities, equipment, and grounds.

Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.

Make minor repairs as needed and report major repair needs to the Facilities Director.

Direct and assist in setting up facilities for meetings and special events.

Assure security and fire alarm systems are kept in good working order.

Maintain security of grounds and all buildings during working hours and take call as scheduled for facilities emergencies and security issues.

Check daily to ensure that all exit doors and panic bars are working properly.

Maintain adequate inventory of the items most often needed during regular maintenance of all facilities, including paper products, tools, and hardware.

Maintain a neat, orderly work area including offices and big and small maintenance shops.

Utilize knowledge of fundamental mechanical, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, or heating and cooling skills in performing assignments.

Operate common hand or power tools.

Perform other related tasks and attend meetings as assigned.

Able to work on ladders and on the roof.

Work independently or with a team.

Follow written and verbal instructions and able to complete reporting of task.

Education

High school diploma

Certifications And Training

Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 30 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.

Texas is an “at-will” employment state.

Employee Certification All employees must adhere to the Catholic Schools Standards of Conduct, the Diocese of Austin EIM policies, and the social, ethical, and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church as interpreted by the Bishop of Austin.
