Underwriting Specialist / Executive Underwriter – Middle Market Private Equity
Zurich Insurance is seeking an experienced Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter for its Middle Markets Private Equity team in the New York City office. The role will focus on customer advocacy, risk assessment, and end‑to‑end underwriting for private equity businesses.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, partners and customers across all industries to support business objectives.
Leverage private equity underwriting acumen across risk assessment, exposure evaluation and pricing to generate and maintain a profitable book of new and renewal business.
Collaborate across business units—including claims, finance, risk engineering, actuarial and technical underwriting—to gain extensive industry knowledge.
Use technical underwriting, negotiation and interpersonal skills to grow and develop relationships with preferred distribution partners in an assigned territory.
Serve as a customer advocate to improve the customer experience by understanding unique risks and offering the best end‑to‑end solution for middle markets private equity insurance needs.
Work in a hybrid environment from the New York City office.
Basic Qualifications – Underwriting Specialist
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in underwriting or market‑facing area.
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in claims or underwriting support area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in underwriting or market‑facing area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in claims or underwriting support area.
Knowledge of lines of business and legal and regulatory guidelines.
Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Basic Qualifications – Executive Underwriter
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in underwriting or market‑facing area.
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in claims or underwriting support area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in underwriting or market‑facing area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in claims or underwriting support area.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree.
Established relationships with private equity broker partners.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Microsoft Office experience.
Compensation Compensation ranges vary by level: • Underwriting Specialist: $92,900 – 152,200 (base) with 10% short‑term incentive bonus eligibility. • Executive Underwriter: $122,900 – 201,300 (base) with 15% short‑term incentive bonus eligibility. Base salary, bonus and benefits will be based on the location, role and level of experience.
Location & Working Arrangements New York City, NY – hybrid work model. Remote working available with a hybrid arrangement.
