The incumbent performs a variety of crime prevention, surveillance, and law enforcement duties to protect students, staff, faculty and College property and maintain public order and safety on the Ithaca College campus. Enforce Ithaca College and department regulations and policies, New York State Penal Laws, vehicle, traffic and other laws. Establish and maintain constructive relationships with community members on and off campus and with off-campus law enforcement and service-oriented agencies. The incumbent is considered essential personnel and may be required to report to work on short notice depending on the situation. Supervision

This position reports to a Sergeant and, in his/her absence, to the Lieutenant. It may receive direction from the Director/Deputy Chief or the Executive Director/Chief. This position may serve as officer in charge in the absence of a corporal or sergeant on duty and will supervise the activities of professional and student staff on duty. Job Responsibilities

Patrol designated areas of the campus to preserve law and order, prevent and deter crime, identify and process violators, enforce traffic regulations, patrol parking lots, residential and academic facilities, and all College property and buildings to ensure security; take necessary action to protect life and property. Respond to and investigate non-criminal calls including student welfare checks, service-related requests, and medical assistance or emergency first aid needs. Respond to and investigate criminal calls and any other violations, misdemeanors and felonies; take appropriate action to protect life and property. Take individuals into custody, fingerprint, process and transport. Document incidents through detailed reports that capture relevant circumstances and information. Conduct investigations of campus incidents involving violations of law, college policy, and accidents and injuries. Prepare investigative reports and present testimony in court or in campus disciplinary hearings. Collect and maintain evidence and property and effect warrants as directed. Respond to and conduct investigations of fire and intrusion alarms; check and reset alarm systems and related emergency equipment. Take appropriate action to protect life and property. Interpret regulations and directives; supervise and participate in activities of patrol officers and other assigned shift personnel; review information from prior shift and coordinate work assignments. Monitor work performance and ensure compliance with departmental regulations; review shift reports and advise management of conditions affecting campus safety and security. Determine appropriate notification of College administration, department supervisors and off-campus agencies of incidents and cases; follow established protocols. Regulate pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular traffic; investigate traffic accidents and complete accident reports; enforce vehicle, traffic, and parking violations. Provide emergency first aid to members of the College community and visitors according to policies and procedures. Participate in and provide support for special events, including traffic and crowd control at sporting events, commencements, orientations, registrations, concerts, parties, exhibits and other events. Establish and maintain relationships with community members and off-campus agencies; share relevant information about the College with students, staff and the broader community as appropriate. Serve as field training officer, including training on policies and procedures, supervising trainees, and documenting progress. Provide regular crime prevention education through workshops and outreach; promote community policing programs. Collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety officers as needed; perform duties of communications specialist or security officer as directed. Job Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; preference given to candidates with relevant experience in law enforcement, security, military service, or other roles demonstrating responsibility and public service; minimum 21 years of age; successful completion of or ability to complete the New York State Basic Course for Police Officers and certification; demonstrated ability to complete the Ithaca College Office of Public Safety Field Training and Evaluation program; possession of or ability to obtain a New York State Pistol Permit; valid New York State driver’s license or ability to obtain one; ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime; ability to perform the essential functions of the position; background check required; member of the collective bargaining unit. Work Environment

Work is performed in indoor and outdoor settings and may involve hazards and physical risks, exposure to extreme temperatures and loud noises. The role requires standing, walking, and physical activity; ability to restrain and lift adults of varying weights; ability to lift, carry, push or move objects up to 30 pounds. Operates vehicles and office equipment as part of duties. The position is deemed essential to ensure health and safety and continuity of college operations during inclement weather closures and delays. Employees may need to report to campus or remain at work for regularly scheduled hours or beyond during emergencies. Application Instructions
