Job Summary: The Program Assistant (PA) can be full-time or part-time regular non-exempt, supporting the Hilo Outreach/Prevention programs. The PA assists activities and services involved with youth homelessness, street outreach, and housing assistance funded through Hawaii County, supervised by the Program Manager. Core responsibilities include supporting Specialist staff and performing direct and/or clerical services to support program operations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provide support to Specialists and other professional staff to: provide outreach and identified services to youth and families; assist in follow-up with youth, families and community agencies; provide transportation services as necessary; provide attendant care to youths; maintain required reports and case file documentation. Provide clerical support, including ordering supplies, maintaining all program files and records, writing or typing correspondence and forms, greeting walk-in clients, handling mail, and light bookkeeping. Perform office housekeeping, schedule appointments, assist in telephone reception, and manage routine office errands. Maintain professional worker-client and staff relationships at all times. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Essential Qualifications: HS graduate or equivalent One year of job-related experience Valid Hawaii driver’s license Valid TB and medical clearance Valid First Aid and CPR certification DHS FBI/Criminal History & CAN, and Salvation Army background clearances Preferred Qualifications: Meets Authorized Driving standards of the Salvation Army, including passing initial and annual MVR clearances to drive for work-related functions and driving company vehicles Physical/Mental/Communication Demands
Physical: sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; driving a vehicle; lifting 25-50 pounds (occasionally more) Mental: work under stressful conditions; manage multiple projects; respond to crisis situations; maintain confidentiality; flexible schedule including evenings and weekends Communication: talk with coworkers, clients, vendors; written communication; training/giving instructions; reading; visiting/working at other sites Skills
Prioritize multiple work tasks to meet tight deadlines; use office equipment (computers, scanners, etc.). Work Environment
