Job Summary The National Institute for Undersea Vehicle Technology (NIUVT) at UConn seeks qualified applicants for a Financial Assistant 1. NIUVT is a dynamic work environment, with this position housed in the Innovation Partnership Building (IPB) on the Storrs campus. The role involves collaboration with students and faculty across various departments within UConn’s College of Engineering. Under the direction of the UConn Director of NIUVT and the Financial Officer, this position provides support in expanding and maintaining NIUVT’s research efforts. The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills to effectively interact with students, faculty, and stakeholders. This is an on‑site position with occasional travel within Connecticut and Rhode Island to meet with NIUVT personnel and partners.

Duties And Responsibilities

Provides financial, administrative, and program support for assigned areas.

Monitors, tracks, and maintains accurate financial records.

Maintains encumbrances and expenditures; processes all necessary paperwork and follows up to resolve issues.

Supports special projects related to NIUVT operations, faculty, students, and staff.

Participates in meetings at the Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and Controlled Technical Information (CTI) levels.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree and 2–3 years of related experience (equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered).

Experience or proven familiarity with financial practices and procedures.

Experience with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

Demonstrated written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting while regularly exercising sound judgment.

Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships.

Proven organizational skills and attention to detail.

Experience with enterprise systems such as Kuali Financial System (KFS), WebFOCUS, HuskyBuy, PageUP, Concur, Core‑CT, or similar platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in higher education or a grant‑funded organization/program.

Experience with procurement and payroll processes.
